I do not believe CRT should hold any place in Glendora schools or curriculum. As a Board member, I would take steps to proactively ensure it does not embed itself in our academics.

I believe that human sexuality, sexual experimentation, sexual identity, etc. is not appropriate for the classroom, and is dealt with best in the context of the home. I believe parents should have the right to know what is being taught with complete transparency and simplicity in advance, and should always have the option to opt-out. As a Board member, I will work to ensure that any sexually related content is communicated to parents first, and that we stick to the basic of human anatomy and development without the encouragement of sexual exploration.

Parents, grandparents, and citizens should have the respect and right to know what is being taught to their children and loved ones, and to be able to know this in a simple and clear way with the ability to express concerns and be part of the solution if appropriate to do so. As a Board member, I will work to ensure nothing is buried or hidden from our parents and community.

I believe that parents should have a voice in their child’s educational experience, and that they are the ultimate authority in what they feel is best for their child. As a Board member, I will empower the parent voice so that they feel heard, equipped, and see action and legislation that works in their favor. I will also seek out information from parents proactively.

I have extensive experience in lobbying and creating legislation. I have worked with officials in Sacramento from both sides of the aisle for over 30 years. As a result, I have the proven experience, relationships, and knowledge to ensure that Glendora has an advocate to push back if necessary or help communicate to our community to ensure that Glendora is getting what is best for Glendorans.

I have experience as a Police Officer working on school campuses, and as a local legislator making sure our campuses and city are safe. Our local Glendora Police Department has endorsed me because they know I have these Leadership attributes both in theory and practice. I understand how to keep our campuses safe from external threats and will work towards increasing this theme when elected. I want our parents, teachers, and students to feel the cloak of protection while on campus.

We have lost many teachers over the past few years due to low morale, high stress, and more. To be an advocate means to listen, empower, and respond. As a Board member, I will ensure our teachers are valued, empowered, equipped, and celebrated. I will have an open door for all of our valued teachers that want to communicate with me about ways to improve our services.

If elected I will convene with key district administrators and teachers in an effort to collect information about academic programs. I will also ask for information from our parents and community as to what they are looking for. I would like to see a return of some of the technical classes that have been eliminated over the years, like auto shop, home economics, "school to work", typing, and other life skill and skill building courses. I also see the need for technology and local government academic programs that give students an advantage once graduated.

The budget is a key element of the board members responsibility. This includes collaborating with our city governance, and other elected officials. The current school board does not look outside to our local government for budgetary resources, and this has created issues. If elected I will remove those barriers and work on a collective budget that maximizes our school properties, grants, revenue per students, and other important variables that relate to a strong fiscal position. Working together with our local Glendora City Council, along with other local elected officials, will benefit our school board immensely.

The City of Glendora and the GUSD share the same citizens, properties, and other valuable resources. Decisions that are made collaboratively and in the spirit of synergy are always better for our citizens. As a former Mayor and City Council Member, I regularly met with the GUSD to find ways we could take advantage of our collaborative efforts and increase our citizens customer experience while at our facilities. We also came up with innovative ways to share costs and improve local services. This synergy has evaporated, and if elected I will return the spirit of working together with our local City Council, County Government, and State officials.

A Board Members role is to be a portal of information for parents, teachers, students, and those doing business in our community. Boards set policy in a collaborative and professional manner, being inclusive and innovative. Boards are involved in selecting key leaders for the school district, and hold them accountable for incremental growth and academic excellence. Board members empower school leaders to function and thrive in a healthy environment. Board members also make key policy decisions that are handed down from other local authorities, not as a rubber stamp, but after thoughtful research, vetting, and transparent fact gathering. Board members should exemplify Leadership, Integrity, Courage, and Stewardship towards the community, teachers, administrators, and the students they serve.
